2009-1 Newsletter

Greetings to all members, family and friends. As the leaves start to change and the weather turning cold, its time to move inside and head to the train room. There has been a lot going on at the club, so let’s get to the news.

Fall Train Meet
Preparations for the Fall Train Meet are well under way. The meet will be held on Sunday November 8th with the doors opening at 9 a.m. at the Mill Hall fire hall. As this event is one of our major fund raisers, all members and families are asked to help with setup, operation and tear down of the show. Advertising through flyers and word of mouth will help keep attendance up. Please contact Jim Hill with any questions or to offer assistance.

Open House
The annual Christmas Open House is scheduled for Tuesday December 15th, 6 – 9 p.m., Saturday December 19th, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., Tuesday December 29th, 6 – 9 p.m., Saturday January 23rd, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Saturday February 20th, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Our Open Houses are a good opportunity to see old friends, meet new ones, and to introduce the hobby to a new generation of “train nuts”. And the best part is the club makes money while we are running trains!!!

With the current size of the layout, we can easily keep 4 to 6 members busy running trains while one or two handle admissions and food, and one to give tours and answer questions. We have started advertising with flyers and the magazines. We will try for another newspaper article since they tend to draw large crowds. Your participation in the Open House will help make this an enjoyable success for all. There will be a sign up sheet posted in the meeting room if you know when you can come. If you or you spouse would like to get involved, please stop by the club on a Tuesday night.

Station Update
The roof replacement on the station is finally complete!!!  We now have a historical looking roof that will protect the station (and its all important contents) from the weather.  Installation of the gutters is currently in progress.

Layout Work
With the completion of the roof work and elimination of the leaks from the project, work on the layout has resumed.  Current projects include completion of the town on the first peninsula, multiple wiring projects and planning for the third peninsula.  There is plenty of work to be done for anyone skilled or interested in scenery work.  If you haven’t been by in a while, stop in and see what is going on.  You may even be invited to role up your sleeves and slap on some hydrocal!

Through our train meets, open houses and other connections, the club has received many donations of railroad items and model trains.  Some of these include the original telegraph set from the Lock Haven PRR station and several train collections.  These items will be set up in the station or used to help fund club projects.  If you know of anyone who is looking for a new home for railroad items or trains, please put them in contact with the club.  We will be glad to help them.

Web Update
The club now has an official web site, www.ccmrr.org.  Check out the site and give us ideas on how to make it even better.

Well that’s it for now.  Flyers are enclosed for the Train Meet and Open House.  Please distribute them wherever possible and more are available at the club.  Remember, Tuesday nights are meeting nights.  The meetings start at 7:30, but they have been short or cancelled so we can work on the layout or run trains.  We hope to see you soon!
